Mechanical Piping Systems

Both join pipe mechanically but suit different work. Victaulic fits new construction and large-diameter installs where grooved coupling can be designed in from the start, plus Vic-Press for flame-free joining at small diameters. Teekay is stronger for retrofit, repair, and pipe-material transitions — Axilock and Axiflex clamp over plain pipe ends without grooving, threading, or welding. For marine fire-rated applications, only Teekay Axilock-FP carries the relevant IACS and ISO 19921/19922 type approvals.

Mechanical joining is excellent for speed, retrofit, and flame-restricted work, but it isn’t always the right call. For continuous high-pressure or high-temperature service that exceeds the rated envelope of the chosen coupling, butt-weld or socket-weld fittings remain the standard. Same for code-driven applications where the design specification calls for fully welded joints with no mechanical breaks in the process line. Check the manufacturer’s pressure-temperature curve against your service conditions, and contact our technical sales team if you’re working close to the limits.

Teekay Axilock-FP and Axilock-FP Ultra are the only couplings in our range type-approved by ABS, Bureau Veritas, DNV, and Lloyd’s Register for marine applications, including category A machinery spaces and on-deck installations. They’re fire-tested to ISO 19921/19922 and VdS certified. Victaulic products carry their own marine certifications and should be specified per the Victaulic marine product list.
