Unified Alloys is a privately owned distributor of stainless steel and corrosion-resistant alloy piping products, founded in 1976 and headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta. We serve procurement managers and project engineers across Canada from five branches, supplying the energy, mining, infrastructure, marine, forestry, and chemical processing sectors.

Since 1976, Unified Alloys has operated on a foundational reality: piping systems are the silent, critical infrastructure behind everyday life. From the water in your tap to the energy powering our grid, the integrity of the process piping determines the stability of the system. We are not just a distributor; we are an integral business partner positioned at the core of the Canadian industrial supply chain

Pipe, fittings, flanges, valves, instrumentation, and specialty items are stocked in all branches. Our stocking program covers sizes from 1/8" through 48" NPS, with larger sizes and specialty grades available from qualified domestic and off-shore mills. We supply stainless steel, chrome moly, duplex, nickel alloys, and carbon steel against ASTM, ASME, and NACE standards.

What We Do

We help engineers and procurement teams specify the right material for the application, source it against verifiable mill certifications, and get it to site on time. The role isn’t complicated, but doing it consistently for fifty years takes discipline.

Our stocking philosophy

Our buying decisions are driven by what Canadian process industries actually consume, not by speculative inventory. That means:

  • Coverage of common stainless grades (304, 304L, 316, 316L) across the full ASME size and class range
  • Working inventory of duplex and super-duplex (2205, 254SMo) for sour service and marine work
  • Nickel alloys (Monel, Inconel) stocked in the sizes our energy and chemical customers reorder
  • Chrome moly (P5 through P91) for power generation and refinery service
    • Heat-treated to the relevant ASME spec
    • MTRs supplied with order
  • Carbon steel where customers ask us to bundle it with their stainless package

What sets the work apart

At Unified Alloys, what distinguishes us from a typical distributor is our position as an integral business partner to the critical industrial facilities we serve.

  • We understand that project schedules depend on our performance, which is why we commit to providing material and services that are 100% on time and complete.
  • We don’t just quote part numbers; we help navigate complex material specifications to ensure the right grade is used for the specific application, whether it is for energy, chemical processing, or water utilities.
  • Our work is guided by the philosophy of “Teamwork, Integrity, and Excellence” a commitment to continuous improvement across every internal and external function.

Most distributors can quote a part number. Fewer can tell you whether the part number is the right answer for your application — whether the grade you’ve specified is overkill or under-spec, whether the wall thickness clears your pressure rating with margin, whether the delivery commitment from the mill is realistic for your project schedule.

UA has been our material partner on four major capital projects since 2018. The difference is straightforward: when they commit to a delivery date, that’s the date. We schedule fabrication against their dates without contingency, which we can’t do with anyone else in the western market.

Where We Work

Five branches across Canada cover the country’s primary process and resource corridors. Edmonton anchor the Western Canadian energy market; Dorval serves Quebec and Eastern Canadian infrastructure; Sarnia handles Ontario’s petrochemical and refining belt; Langley serves coastal and interior British Columbia.

Branch Region Served Primary Sectors
Edmonton, AB Alberta Oil & gas, mining, oil sands, pretrochemical
Langley, BC British Columbia – Coastal and Interior Marine, forestry, pulp & paper
Sarnia, ON Ontario & Quebec Refining, petrochemical
Dorval, QC Quebec & Ontario Infrastructure, chemical, food processing

Certifications & Compliance

Our quality management system is third-party audited and our vendor profiles are maintained against the major contractor screening platforms used by Canadian process industries.

Quality system

  • ISO 9001:2015 certified quality management system
  • Documented material traceability from mill to delivery
  • Mill Test Reports (MTRs) supplied with every order on request
  • Canadian Registration Numbers (CRN) maintained for registrable fittings

Vendor certifications

  • Avetta — contractor pre-qualification across energy and mining operators
  • ISN — contractor management for oil & gas and industrial owners
  • Cognibox — supplier compliance for forestry, pulp & paper, and Quebec industrial
  • ComplyWorks — vendor management across resource and infrastructure sectors

EDI-ready for purchase orders, invoices, advance shipping notices, and document exchange. Onboarding typically completes within two weeks once trading partner details are confirmed.

How We Work

Unified Alloys functions as an integral business partner, not a passive vendor. On major capital projects, our performance is the linchpin for the entire construction and fabrication schedule.

Here is how we integrate into the project lifecycle:

  • Managed Supply Chain Oversight: We provide comprehensive oversight across both direct and indirect channels. We work interdependently with Plant & Facility Owners, Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) firms, Fabricators, and Mechanical Contractors to ensure the piping system components reach the site precisely when needed.
  • The Buying Cycle as a Guide: We use a structured Buying Cycle to navigate every path a project may take. This process involves:
    • Investigating & Preliminary Research: Understanding the specific technical needs of the project.
    • Demonstrating Capability: Proving that our proven and innovative process piping solutions meet the rigorous standards of critical infrastructure.
    • Obtaining Commitment: Aligning our delivery with the project’s milestones.
  • Execution with Zero Contingency: Our mandate for every project is to provide material and services 100% on time and complete, every time. We understand that in complex industrial environments—like refineries, chemical plants, and water treatment facilities—there is no room for error.
  • Technical Partnership: Project success is built on the right specifications. We leverage our deep inventory and technical expertise to help project teams select the correct grades for specialized applications, such as stainless steel for oil and gas refining or corrosion-resistant alloys for the pulp and paper industry.
  • Interdependent Teamwork: We view our internal teams and external partners like the components of a piping system itself. We communicate professionally and transparently to create a fluid process that enables complex projects to move from design to operation without disruption

Our goal on any project is to ensure the Plants & Facilities that produce our society’s everyday needs – energy, clean water, and processed goods – can operate safely and reliably

The Long View

Fifty years in industrial distribution doesn’t happen by accident, and we don’t take continuity in this market for granted. The customers who started buying from UA in the 1980s are still buying from us today — in some cases through the second generation of procurement leaders at the same operating companies.

That’s the metric we measure ourselves against. Capital projects come and go; supply relationships persist when the work behind them is reliable, the specifications are honest, and the people answering the phone know what they’re talking about.
